The 2023 Symposium (Northeast Ohio GIS Symposium)

The 2023 Northeast Ohio GIS Symposium (now known as The Great Lakes GeoSymposium) marked another successful year of bringing together the geospatial community through a dynamic two-day virtual event. By combining the Ohio URISA Developer Summit with the annual GIS Symposium, attendees enjoyed a unique blend of hands-on technical training and broader geospatial presentations that appealed to GIS professionals, developers, managers, educators, students, and decision-makers alike. The virtual format enabled participants from across Ohio and beyond to connect, collaborate, and learn from industry leaders without leaving their offices.

Day One featured the Ohio URISA Developer Summit, offering in-depth technical sessions focused on modern ArcGIS technologies and enterprise GIS development. Participants explored ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Monitor, ArcGIS Arcade, cloud migration strategies, and enterprise deployment techniques, gaining practical skills they could apply immediately in their organizations. The Developer Summit reflected the growing importance of cloud computing, web GIS, automation, and enterprise system management within today's geospatial profession.

The Northeast Ohio GIS Symposium continued on Day Two with an outstanding lineup of keynote speakers and technical presentations showcasing the diversity of GIS applications across government, transportation, remote sensing, surveying, asset management, higher education, and infrastructure. Topics included mobile LiDAR, artificial intelligence and machine learning for remote sensing, the modernization of the State Plane Coordinate System, transportation asset management, drone technology, enterprise GIS administration, and innovative uses of ArcGIS Online. Together, the two-day event reinforced the symposium's mission of advancing geospatial education, encouraging collaboration, and providing a forum where professionals could exchange ideas, discover emerging technologies, and strengthen the regional GIS community.
